Two silhouettes. A river. And the light does the rest.
In Mana Pools in 2023, this black-and-white photograph captures two elephants standing along the banks of the Zambezi River, almost dissolved into the light filtering through the forest. Their shapes emerge as silhouettes against the shimmering water, both monumental and fleeting at the same time.
Black and white does not diminish this image. It reveals it. Stripped of the distraction of color, only the essentials remain: mass, light, and silence. The forests of Mana Pools become a cathedral. The elephants, its eternal guardians.
Some wildlife photographs are documents. This one is a work of art.
